BGAA October 2015 Quarterly Meeting

BGAA General Meeting Battle Ground Library October 17, 2015

Greeting: Julie Koch and Cheryl Hazen greeted members.

Business Report – Cheryl Hazen, President Cheryl announced that three board positions were available: Secretary, Treasurer, and Member At Large and after a membership nomination and vote, new board members would be seated in January 2016. Cheryl mentioned new membership signup available on the BGAA website.

Guest Speaker: Jeannie Beckman, Welder and former owner of Oh Grow Up. Jeannie is an eighteen year resident and has primarily sold her work at the Vancouver Farmers Market. Her focus is on plants. Due to health issues she is selling to a couple in Sherwood. Jeannie is currently working with them through the transition. She plans to work with the new owners for two years. Everything will move to Sherwood. The new owners will be at the Vancouver Farmers Market twice a month. They took the company name and website.

With her free time Jeannie is working on cut glass garden plates, etc. for gardens. She showed the membership lovely examples of her work. Local nurseries have asked her to sell her work at their locations but she wants to keep prices affordable. She will be in the market but not all the time. Jeannie will come up with a name for her garden glass work art soon.

Jeannie’s welding pieces were cold bend and she doesn’t have the strength now. She designed and made her own tools. Jeannie won’t let anyone in her shop as it is a trade secret. Welding is: a fancy glue gun, bend, make culls, setup, and then make welds. Designs are the issue, welds are not. Jeannie uses clear rubber silicone to glue her items. She looks around her garden for inspiration. Jeannie has worked on 9’ Clematis Towers but can make 12’. She does special orders within reason. She has a 60x40 shop where she once worked on a project that took all the space for layout. She gets recycled metal from old cars, chair length cables, etc. She made four half rounds, 10’ tall for scarlet runners installed in cement. She also makes cucumber and clematis ladders and tomato cages.

You can locate Jeannie at (503)577-0655.
