BATTLE GROUND ART ALLIANCE 10TH ANNUAL SPRING SHOW & SALE A HUGE SUCCESS!

Battle Ground Art Alliance hosted it's 10th annual judged & juried fine art & fine craft show for Southwest Washington artists on Saturday March 19th & Sunday March 20th at the beautiful Battle Ground Community Center, 912 East Main Street, Battle Ground.

This show has become the largest judged & juried show in Southwest Washington. The show included recent original works in oils, watercolors, acrylics, pastels, drawings, handmade prints, photography, mixed media, collages & art quilts; and jewelry, sculpture, pottery, egg art, woodworks, basketry, glass & textiles. 

The artists' reception was Saturday, March 19th, 2011 from 5-8pm with the awards ceremony at 6:30.  Battle Ground Mayor Mike Ciraulo presented awards.  Local musicians of various genres will perform during the entire show.

Judges

Submissions were juried & judged prior to the show opening by Susan Boomhouwer: Self employed designer, artist and sculptor since 1993; former art instructor in primary grades through college level; MFA from California State University.  Dara Hartman: utilitarian ceramic artist; teaches at Clark College, and Oregon College of Art and Craft, Portland; BGA from Virginia Polytechnic Institute; MFA from Montana State University.

Music

Local musicians provided continuous entertainment Saturday & Sunday. Saturday Music World flute students performed from 11 am, followed by Upfront Band, Chris Bidleman (jazz) at noon. At 1pm Wailn' Jenn, Jenny Bloenk will perform folk, blues & country, followed by Just for Fun, Larry Hoffman  with country & blues at 2pm.   Larry Hoffman & Connie Mitchell  performed with Mandolin & Harp from 3to 3:30.  The Fargher Lake Boys, Dick & Jay performed old time & country swing from 3:45 to 4:30. Clark County Benign Band, Wayne Hoffman will performcountry music from 4:45 to 5:30.  This lead to the Artist's Reception when Michael McCabe played classical guitar before the awards presentation at 6:30.  After the presentation Mark Martin performed from 7pm to 8pm.

During the show Sunday the schedule was: 11-12:00 Tyson Schmidling (country, bluegrass); 12 to 12:45 David Hu; 1 to 1:45 TwoRivers Music, Eric TwoRivers; and 2 to 3:00pm the Battle Ground High School Jazz Choir, Darcy Schmitt.

BGAA had a record crowd in the large space at the Battle Ground Community Center for the 10th annual show. This free family event was enjoyed by everyone.   Canned food was collected for North County Community Food Bank.

As in previous years this show would not be such a success without the generous donations and support we received from the community. The Battle Ground Art Alliance is a 501c3 nonprofit group, formed in 2001 to support and encourage artists in our community, and to increase public awareness of the arts.

People's Choice Award 

Eighty-eight pieces of work received votes out of the 236 votes cast. The winner of the People's Choice Award was "Service for One" a painting by Linda McCord.

A close second was "Prairie Hawk II & Stool" a wood rocking chair by Orrin Gerke.
